An intensive 16-Week wānanga designed to empower rangatahi tanga (young men) aged 15-24. The purpose of Bros for Change is to give young people who have been labelled, a second chance to create real change through real talk with real people. Here you will be involved in:

  • Learning about the environment & conservation
  • Māori performing arts through kapa haka, learning Te Reo Maori, Karakia, and hīmene

NZMA Youth Guarantee programmes

The Youth Guarantee courses provide a pathway from school to further study, work or training.

SIT Christchurch has a limited number of spaces available on the Youth Guarantee courses, and applications should be sent as early as possible before courses begin.

National Trade Academy YG courses

Learn practical skills and knowledge required for a successful career in land-based industries. 

NTA delivers Youth Guarantee courses for 16–24-year-olds, that provide basic and core skills identified by employers as being important in the workplace. 

Courses that commence in February 2025 include:

  • Agriculture – NZ Certificate in Primary Industry Skills

Learn Te Reo Māori for free

Are you a beginner in Te Reo or know some already, these courses can help you learn and grow in the Māori language.

This year, all five levels of Māori language courses at Ara Institute of Canterbury are free. 

The courses are taught by passionate and experienced Māori language teachers, and can be studied full-time over 19 weeks or part-time over a year.

Health and Wellbeing Certificate

Are you interested in growing your knowledge of the social services?

Ngā Maata Waka is registered and accredited to deliver up to Level 6 programmes and is a Māori organisation in the South Island accredited to deliver Social Work courses. 

The New Zealand Certificate in Health & Wellbeing in Social and Community Services is a Level 4 Qualification. This qualification is delivered in clusters and offered as a one-year full-time study programme.

The work experience placement components allow you to study practice models in the field and implement the practice skills acquired in the classroom.

Intro to Trade Baking – Level 3

A 12-week programme for hands-on learning in commercial baking. 

You will be in a simulated commercial bakery training centre located in Sydenham, Christchurch, learning:

  • How to follow recipes and change ingredients when needed
  • Creating from scratch and pre-mixes
  • Working with industrial-grade machinery
  • How to bake bread, cake, and biscuits
  • How to prepare items for sale, including icing items or decorating cakes
  • How to prepare customer orders, and more. 

Skills4Work will help you to create a portfolio, CV and arrange an interviews with prospective employers, close to your preferred home location.

  • Domestic Student
  • New Zealand Citizen or Resident
